llms.txt generator
Fill in the form and get an llms.txt file laid out the way the llmstxt.org proposal describes: title, summary, context and sections of annotated links. Everything happens in your browser.
llms.txt
# Your site name
- Add a name: the H1 is the only required part of llms.txt.
- Add a one-line summary; it becomes the blockquote readers see first.
Upload it to your site root so it loads at /llms.txt. Your draft is kept in this browser.
What llms.txt is, and what it isn't
Jeremy Howard (Answer.AI) proposed llms.txt in September 2024 as a simple Markdown file at /llms.txt. The idea: websites are full of navigation, scripts and marketing, and a model with a limited context window benefits from a short, curated map of the pages that matter.
Be clear-eyed about it. It is a proposal. No major AI company has said that it uses llms.txt to decide what to recommend or cite. Some documentation platforms generate it and some coding assistants read it. Adding one takes ten minutes and does no harm; it's a small part of GEO, not a shortcut.
The format
- # Name: an H1 with the project or site name. The only required element.
- > Summary: a blockquote with the key facts in a sentence or two.
- Context: optional paragraphs or lists, no headings.
- ## Sections: each an H2 followed by a list of
- [Title](url): notelines. - ## Optional: a section of secondary links that can be skipped.
The proposal also suggests offering clean Markdown versions of pages (the same URL with .md appended). That's optional and depends on your platform.
Tips for a useful file
- Link the pages that answer buyer questions: pricing, features, comparisons, docs, policies.
- Write notes that describe content ("Plans and limits, updated monthly"), not slogans.
- Keep it short. A curated list of 10–30 links beats a dump of your sitemap.
- Check
robots.txttoo. If GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot are blocked, llms.txt won't get them in.
